A linear pair of angles has two defining characteristics:
- 1) the angles must be supplmentary
- 2) The angles must be adjacent
In the picture below, you can see two sets of angles. Both sets (top and bottom) are supplementary but only the top ones are linear pairs because these ones are also adjacent.
